Persephone - Performance
The performance was presented in the 10th Platform Project ’22 in School of Fine Art, Athens under the installation “Persephone” from the group CultivationCultivation, which I am part of.
Persephone, daughter and wife, but above all woman, is a timeless symbol in a role built for her by the male-dominated world, shamelessly passing her abduction and rape. With her presumed acceptance, they beautified the myth by developing a tragic figure to a bipolar Queen of the Underworld, of Light-Darkness.
In my performance a female figure (me), is drawing her bipolar imprint with two colors, black and orange, while moving, always in contact with the paper. Visually the imprints transform the paper to a mythological landscape.
The sound is an original composition based on the voices of women from the group reading ancient Greek text, or a modern telephone catalog, or calling Persephone, and it gives a grotesque tone to the performances.
Fragments of the performance can be viewed in the video below.
